This is a problem I´ve been having for a while now regardless of the Parallels build I´m using and I couldn´t find anything similar in the forums.

I´m using four spaces and asigned Parallels to open in space 4. Now when I click on the parallels icon and I happen to be in a space other than space 4, I´m automatically taken to space 4 where I can see the Parallels window with the available guest OS but it immediately goes back to the space I was even before I can select a virtual machine. I then have to click on the Parallels icon in the dock to see the Parallels window again in space 4 and to stay there. Then when I select the guest OS it first switches back to the previous space and again back to space 4. Thereby my click on the guest OS SOMETIMES does but most of the times doesn´t have any effect at all. This goes on as long as I don´t manually switch to space 4.

So basically, as long as I´m not starting Parallels Desktop right in the space it´s asigned to run it goes back and forth between spaces with every selection I make in the Parallels window.

I find this very weird, but even more weird is the fact that obviuosly I´m the only one with this problem.

I´m running Parallels Desktop build 5604. BUt as I said, I had this problems with other builds as well. On my Mac Parallels is the only app that shows this kind of behaviour.

What version of OSX are you using? If it is Leopard, with the latest update there is an option in spaces that says to switch to an application, to switch to a space with open windows. If you deselect that option, it will stop that behavior, at least it did for me.

I´m using OSX 1.5.3 on an Intel iMac.
I tried deselecting that box but unfortunatelly it still jumps back and forth. Thanks anyway though. At least I´m not the only one with this problem anymore :)

sassoon is right, but even without assigning application I can switch normally,
I suppose some kind of notification software is working and bring you back to Space 1
Maybe you can record screencast , we can check situation

I tried the screencast thingy but (if my problem wasn´t weird enough) everytime I make a movie of the screen parallels takes ages to load and when it finally does it works the way it´s supposed to. That I can make a movie of.
And seriously.... even deselecting the checkbox it still jumps to the space parallels is asigned to and back again only that this time a click on the parallels icon in the dock won´t take me to the space parallels is in.

As far as understand deselecting the box just prevents spaces to take you to the app if it´s already open in a different space. Not really what I need here I guess.
I just need spaces to take me to the parallels window and stay there. It does work for all other apps just not for parallels desktop.

Well I meat such behavior with Firefox suddenly, when it brings me back to Space1 while it is on 3, I tried to catch up the moment but couldn't figure out why this happened
Will try to investigate, but I am sure, some other application is caused this, not one you are switching to

I`m lucky that now you too saw this problem. At least once.

If it´s a different app doing this, then it must me a popular one I guess. I tried to start Parallels right after booting and before starting any other apps. No luck so far.

    This can be caused if
Bring notification windows to front is checked in Coherence option, even if you are using full screen

Same here, it goes like the Keystone Cops at Wimbledon and is quite disconcerting although it does settle.

    See - you weren't the only one ! :)

I´m using the windows view all the time and I didn´t even have "bring notification windows to front" selected. At least in my case we can rule that one out.

I noticed that the behaviour is not always exactly the same. Sometimes it jumps to the asigned space and back while the PD panel and the "select virtual machine" window stay both in the space where it´s supposed to run. Sometimes however only the PD panel stays in the asigned space while the VM select window shows up in the current space I´m in. I think this "splitted panel" isn´t normal either?

I´m really releaved to see that! Now I just don´t get why there was noone bringing this up before :)

Apathy - well, I used to be apathetic, I just don't care anymore :)

Fact is, I am SO happy with the ability to use the best (for me) Windows applications on a Mac, I tend to just put up with minor annoyances.

    Take care

Please not that we continue investigation, we just cannot reproduce this up to now.
I mean with Parallels Desktop, personally I met this Firefox, but I cannot repeat it again

I've just tried it again whilst I was in Screen 1 (top left), the 'flashing' came from bottom right a couple of times as if it were 'telling me' that Screen 4 is where it's displaying (I have Parallels selected to that Screen).

Interestingly, if I am in Screen 2, then it comes up from below so to speak. I wonder if it isn't a feature of Spaces. The 'flashing' back and foward is a bit dramatic, but it does seem to tie in (on my MBP) with the direction I need to go to see the application (Parallels) that I have just invoked.

Why don't you try that and see?
