I am trying to install an older version of Mac OS to run old applications that don't run on my Catalina system. I have tried using an old disk image for El Capitan, which failed. I have also tried downloading the dmg files from apple but get a "Unable to detect operating system" error. I am using Parallels Version 16.1.0 (48950).
