This is one of the most frustrating issues with Parallels 3.0 and yet the issue is rarely discussed online and nothing close to a solution has been found (except a user on the Apple Discussion forum). So, to sum it up: - Trying to install Boot Camp drivers yields an error before the installation even begins. - isightinstaller.exe/appleisightinstaller.exe does not even launch on guest OS. - pointing XP to an extracted isight driver yields a message claiming the driver does not contain information about the device. - A user on the Apple Discussions forum posted a thread where he brings to light a possible reason for this: "the iSight product id in the [Santa Rosa] MacBook Pro is 8502 while in the MacBook it is 8501, therefore Windows won't recognize the device and install the driver." I think it is outrageous that the Parallels team has yet to address this issue...
I'm awfully sorry for delaying the answer. I've been waiting for news from our testers... I can only say that Parallels are fixing the problem in the current version of PD and you won't be facing it in the next PD version. Best regards, Xenos
iSight also does not work in Houston Xenos...what I am hearing you say is that I should return my PD 3.0 that I got two days ago at the same time I got Leopard in order to get the solution to the iSight camera issue. I primarily bought PD 3.0 to make training movies w/Camtasia, which will include video from the attached iSight, but can't do it. From what I hear you say, I should take advantage of the 30 day return policy and just use Bootcamp until the next version of PD. Am I correct? Overseeing 600 Windows machines, I have been on a 11 year hiatus from Macs and other than this one glitch I have been having a great time the past 3 weeks w/new Macbook. Thanks...mako78gma
Hello mako78gma, Yes you can take advantage of the 30 day return policy and wait for the new version which is coming soon... Thank you for your report. Best regards, Xenos
Possible solution Dear all, To use the Isight camera you can try to install Apple ISight drivers for Windows manually. Please follow the instructions: 1. Insert the original Leopard DVD into the DVD drive of the Mac. Connect the disk to the virtual machine by choosing the "Default CD/DVD" drive under the "Devices - DVD rom" menu. 2. Hold down the Shift key in order to disable the autorun option and stop the Boot Camp drivers automatic installation. If the Boot Camp window appears click on the "Cancel" button to cancel this installation. 3. Open MyComputer, right-click on the Boot Camp DVD disk, choose the "Open" option, browse to the "Drivers-Apple" folder and find the "AppleiSightInstaller.exe" file. 4. Connect the iSight camera to the virtual machine. To do so please choose the iSight camera under the "Parallels - Devices - USB" menu. 5. Double-click on the AppleiSightInstaller.exe to install the required drivers for iSight. Please follow the on-screen instructions. Our QA team has tested this method however it's not proved by users yet. We'd appreciate the feedback from you. Best regards, Xenos
