    Greetings.

I would again appreciate you help.

My host OS is XP. My guest is Solaris.

    Question.

Does it matter whether I install Solaris "inside" our "outside" Parallel Workstation?

By inside PW I mean just after installing PW and trying to start the Solaris guest the Solaris DVD is read and the Solaris install process begins.

I suspect the answer is no but I am having problems and if the answer is no I will try to install Solaris "outside" PW.

    Thanks again,

    Sincerely,

    Jerry

Your definition of "inside" makes some sense, but what is your definition of "outside"?

Certainly if you do install Solaris "outside" Parallels you would overwrite Windows XP and all your data, including virtual machine containers.

I am not sure why you ask, but my advice is to install Parallels, then create a virtual machine for Solaris, then install Solaris in it. My guess is that you need about 10 GB for a usable Solaris system.

    Thank you Andrew

Thank you very much for your advice.

My definition of "outside" Parallel Workstation (PW) is doing the Solaris install without PW running.

I realize one of my major mistakes was when I un-installed PW then re-installed PW I never re-created a virtual machine for Solaris. Curiously enough, and in spite of that , an install of Solaris 10 did occur "inside" PW even though I had not created a VM for Solaris.

Thanks again for your advice. Odds are I would have installed Solaris "outside" PW and hosed my XP host!

    Sincerely,

    Jerry B.

If you created a VM, during which, you would have had to either allocate a set amount of disk space, or set the VM disk to be expanding, then you can still use that. Even if you have uninstalled and re-installed. Just do an open VM.

If you did not create a VM disk, then all you do now, is click on new VM.

I would recommend that you create a static(set size) VM disk.

This is the great thing about helping. You could walk past me in the street, and I wouldn't even know it was you. But I feel good about your success.
