I have parallels version 4.0 and has been working fine until today. It is now telling me to put the activation key in again and do a new install. The only thing different is that I added additional memory to my iMac, when I booted up parallels it tells me how to install parallels but it's already installed....

Do I need to go through the install process again??

Actually, yes, this is the fastest way.
Reinstallation of Parallels Desktop is quite fast and does not require reinstallation of virtual machine.

I would suggest to use the latest build of Parallels 4.0 for this purpose as well.
It can be obtained via the link specified in following article: http://kb.parallels.com/5802
