Hi Everyone, My Windows XP died in Parallels Desktop 5 on Snow Leopard (Unable to access Hard Disk 1 - Error ID: Input/output), and I need to get all of my PC files back. I used to access my files through a .Ink file on my desktop, and I can see that I have a .hds file inside the VM's package that is 54GB. I assume this is where all my files are trapped. Is there a way I can get inside this file to save my work? Thank you!
Go look for your Parallels virtual machine (usually inside a folder "Parallels" inside your "Documents" folder) on your Mac. Right-click on the Virtual Machine and select "Open with..." and "Parallels Mounter". Now that VM's hard drive will be mounted on your Mac's desktop just like a plain old hard drive. Open it, and look for your files there (Windows usually keeps files inside the "My documents" folder but of course you may have stored your files elsewhere). Good luck! PS get a cheap large USB hard drive and back up your VM every once in a while... it's really nice to have a backup for such cases ;-)
