I have just compared compiling the same software package on a 3.4GHz P4 linux machine versus a 2GHz dual core MacBookPro. Both systems ran Ubuntu freshly installed. Linux-Box: 269.570u 41.039s 5:13.09 99.2% 0+0k 0+0io 135pf+0w Virutal Machine: 60.961u 316.494s 6:20.85 99.1% 0+0k 0+0io 0pf+0w 5:13 min vs 6:20. That is impressive. The virtual machine ran at about 150%, using the dual core. The different allocation between user and system time is probably due to some tasks on the virtual machine running in the virtual layer and being accounted for as system time, I suppose. What counts is the wall clock time and I'm very happy with that. -sas
