I'm not a big "gamer" - I'm more of a Freecell kind of guy. But, I've always been obsessed with Doom II. I have the Windows version as well as the mac version. I've got three PC's, one Mac Mini, Win2K, Win98, OS X, and Parallels and I've yet to find a combination which will allow me to run this game.

The closest I've come is I've got Parallels running Win98 on a Mac Mini. The game runs and has everything except mouse support - sound, background music, 640x480 video - I'm so close. I've tested the mouse functionality by opening a DOS window under Win98 under Parallels for OS X and ran Edit. Edit shows a fully functioning mouse in a window as well as in full screen mode. This is a Logitech PC/Mac USB mouse. Doom II ignores the mouse.

I've also got Duke Nuke'em 3D. It cannot find the sound card. The driver properties in Win98 show IRQ 9 being used, but the Duke wants anything except IRQ9 - it's not available from the pull-down selection.

I can install DOS 6.2.2 as a VM, but you do not appear to have any mouse or sound card support. In ancient times, I would modify my config.sys to load TSR's for mouse and sound. Soundblaster used to come with DOS drivers which were loaded from autoexec.bat.

Or, should I give up on Doom II and buy Doom 3 for Mac?

    Hey - that works

That works - under a Windows2000 VM under Parallels, on a mac mini, with sound and mouse. Thanks!
