I finally sat down and put some real effort into getting better performance out of my converted windows 7 vm. Originally the vm was my dell laptop, then a vmware vm, then a parallels vm. SO, there were TONS of leftover device drivers to be removed. Remove old device drivers; - Right click 'computer', and select properties - Select advanced system settings - Select the advanced tab - Select environmental variables - Add a new variable, "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices" with value 1 - Reboot - Log in, right click computer, and select properties - select device manager - In device manager, click view, and show hidden devices - Go through and remove ANYTHING that is greyed out (as in, not connected) If you converted the vm you will likely see tons of old video card drivers, etc that will cause performance issues with your guest vm. While in device manager, select your hard drive, click properties, policies, and make sure both cache options are enabled. These improved the performance of my parallels and fusion vm's significantly after converting. Frankly im surprised they weren't removed in the conversion process.
