I have a laptop with an XP install and various software for which I have lost the install discs. Is there a way to image this HD so I can make a virtual XP system to use unter parallels?

Yes, use the Parallels 'Transporter' application. To migrate a real computer to a virtual machine image you'll install the transporter 'agent' in the real OS, then run the transporter application and point it at the agent. The agent will duplicate the OS image for you across the network (so it takes a while and you want a fast network. If your laptop supports Gigabit Ethernet then I'd suggest just direct connecting a cable).

Transporter has it's own message forum on this site (if you need further help).

    Regards,
    Tim

Ive removed the HD from the laptop. I guess its not possible to image the disk then. How does transporter deal with locked files?

    EDIT: Using transporter worked well.
