    hi,

i am new to this forum and have already benefited quite a bit from all the discussions. my setup is the following:

    - host os: win xp
    - guest os: kubuntu linux 6.10
    - pc: dell laptop inspirion 9400 intel core 2 duo

i have installed parallels alongside with kubuntu and the installation finally worked after configuring the vm with 512mb (also thanks to a thread in this forum).

i now want to use host-only networking (i connect to the internet through an adsl usb modem): i have tried various configuratins including static and dhcp and it appears that after using dhcp (and rebooting) the vm and the host can talk to each other as they can both be pinged from the other end. the host receives ip 10.0.0.2, the vm 10.0.0.3. no default gateway etc specified.

however, i still cannot connect to the internet from the kubuntu vm and when i open up the parallels host-guest virtual nic, i see only one-sided traffic. a network check in kubuntu does not find an internet connection either. i have turned the firewall in xp of to see whether that makes a difference but no effect...

it appears to me that quite a lot of people are having networking problems and might benefit from a discussion.
    thanks a lot in advance!

Could be using host-only networking is your problem (never used it, but it seems to be difficult to use for guest internet access). Bridged networking usually 'just works'. Set up your guest just like your host with bridged and see what happens.
