this weekend I added parallels to my new macbk pro 17" (note this is my first apple experience) I installed xp and amazingly everything appears to work except - I have a 500 gb lacie external drive. why can't I see it in my computer in windows???? any help would be appreciated thanks
hi newbie - another 1 here! i supose you have to set as ENABLE the option USB connections in the parallels settings prior to running your vm XP... in my case i have that option ON but still the xp cant recognise my USB when plugged! *sigh* - open your parallels program > enter into guest os > select the usb conection from list > make conection enable and auto > save & close...
why not just mount the drive in OSX, then go into your VMs configuration and add the mount point that the external drive is mounted on, as a shared folder ? then osx and windows can both write to it.. ?!? to the original poster.. sound like your only option is the reinstall.. windows activation isnt a big thing... its a freephone number you call and only takes a couple minutes.... dont be scared.. theres nothing wrong with activating windows over and over again... M$ are never going to say no..
I didnt mention that the external drive is hooked in through firewire 800 - my usb external drives work fine - maybe I'l just hook in through usb thanks both of you for your answers
thank you darkone even on usb I cant see it in windows but do see it in apple - maybe becasue lacie 500 gb is formatted in udg and not ntetc for windows - also at times it seems to take a long time to find usb drives. thanks for your help
