Bummed out longtime Apple/Mac user who might switch back to the Windows world. I have a new Mac with Windows 8.1, Parallels 9 and a HDHomeRun Prime unit with Cable Card/tuning adapter. My cable provider is Time Warner Cable. HDHomeRun works fine on PC's. However, I have been informed by SiliconDust the maker of HDHomeRun that Windows Media Center (WMC) will not work in a virtual machine setup. In addition, no other program beside WMC can run protected programs (Copy Once). Any way to disguise the drivers so WMC will decode program? Below is the response I received from SiliconDust "You will not be able to use Parallels as it is a virtual machine. WMC needs to be in direct communication with the hardware in order to maintain a protected playback path. Silicondust Support" Thanks,
It's not that WMC doesn't work in Parallels. The problem is that Microsoft DRM/content protection requirements could not be met by a VM (such as video memory protection and display path encryption). So, if HDHomeRun streams content that requires protection, WMC will refuse to play it.
