I'm using Parallels to verify that the sites I write look right under IE in Windows. I use virtual hosting on Apache running on the OS X host, and change the /etc/hosts file so that the domain name of site I'm testing redirects to the host, so the locally hosted site comes up properly. This works fine on my host, and really any other machines whose hosts file I modify (including another Windows machine that I currently connect to via Microsoft's RDC). For some reason, however, this isn't working properly in my installation of XP on Parallels. For some reason, this setup results in partially loaded pages. In other words, IE begins loading the page, but then stalls partway through. I can verify this by looking at the viewing the source code in IE - it's like it just misses part of the response from the web server. Strangely enough, IE can connect to any site on the internet and it loads properly. I'm on a Macbook Pro using Parallels beta6 with bridged ethernet, running XP SP2 and whatever the latest version of IE 6 is. I've also attempted using host-only networking in Parallels, and sharing the connection via OS X's internet sharing, but the same thing happens. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?
Hmm... still having this issue with the release candidate. Is anyone using a similar configuration? Is there anyone else doing web development that can offer a better solution to hosting test sites? Thanks! Rob
