I have bought and installed Parallels, downloaded build 5600, installed SP2.
Still cant run games properly. I tried Titan Quest, the screen went black and nothing happened. Same thing with Warhammer Mark of Chaos and Worms World Party.

    Help? >:

I'm having similar problem with EA Sport's Madden 08

I'm trying to run Madden 08 for PC in a Parallels VM. The guest OS is Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0.6000 BUILD 6000) with 1GB RAM allocated (I've tried 16 and 64 for Video RAM settings).

    Other details:

Machine Macbook Pro 2.5Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram, 250GB harddrive running Leopard 10.5.2. Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac build 5600.

General windows applications like Office 07, Java apps, Firefox, Thunderbird... all work great.

Madden sometimes will start playing audio although it is broken up and poor quality and displays a big empty white window and stops responding, or it crashes with whatever the Vista term for a general protection fault.

I've seen people in other threads say "be sure DirectX is enabled." I don't see anything about DirectX in the VM setup except Enable DirectX Shading (experimental). I've tried it with that checkbox both set and clear. Neither works. Where is this DirectX setting people are talking about? When Madden installed it made sure DirectX and other components were properly installed.

Please help! I'd much rather run this in a VM than having to setup a dual boot system. I was under the impression that Parallels 3.0 was supposed to work with most/many games.

About the setting, I'm pretty sure this is it.

    • With your virtual machine open, and stopped, go to the Edit pull down, and "Edit Virtual Machine"

    • Then click on Video in the left resource box.

    • On the bottom right side of the window, click on the check box that says "Enable DirectX Support"

I noticed this was OFF by default. In my parallels 3.0.

That being said, mines on, and I can't run this OpenGL game:

i sure wish someone would compile a list of those that do and those that don't. i have been trying to find out of Massive Assault Network 2 runs under parallels, but can't seem to get an answer.

as far as madden goes, isn't there a mac version?

I have heard rumors there will be a Mac version of Madden, but I haven't seen it. I have the Windows version for now and would love to avoid having to setup a dual boot scenario.

Thanks to all for the responses. I'm away from my Intel Mac at the moment so I can't check it. I will check it tonight. I don't recall seeing that checkbox, just the one about shading. But I will look again

OK I'm on the machine now and in the video Display Options screen. There is no checkbox related to DirectX other than the

    Enable DirectX Shaders (experimental)

checkbox. I've tried with this check and unchecked. I'm changed around the video RAM and tried boosting (and lowering for that matter) the RAM for the VM. Why can some people see a DirectX checkbox but I can't? I'm using Parallels Desktop 3.0 build 5600.

    Fab,
It's cool that its out for the Mac, but that doesn't really address the issue of why I can't run this on Windows with Parallels. I have the Windows version in hand and a pretty state-of-the-art fully decked out Macbook Pro.

Mac version 4 times as much!

I bought the Windows version for under $10. The Mac version is $40. I would like to hear from someone at Parallels to give me the official word on whether Madden 08 Windows should work.

biglar, thanks. i did not know that existed. sadly, my game not there. not sure i want to potentially experience some of the drama i see on this forum just to find out for myself :)

richsad, hard to beat that price, but if you can't run it... :)

Well I can run it on WinDoze machine, but I was hoping to use it on my MBP. I still am unclear why I can't get it working or don't see the DirectX checkbox (other than the experimental shader).

I am awaiting response from Parallels,

    Sarcasm?

    Fab,

Do I sense sarcasm in your reply? Does Parallel's not respond or something?

I am getting pretty annoyed that they haven't weighed in. Maybe they should realize that they aren;t the only VM provider in town anymore!

    Warhammer online

Using Parallels 4.0, trying to get Warhammer Online to run (Macbook Pro - runs great under boot camp):

Here is the crashlog from Warhammer Online:

[13:12:53.375]:OS Version: Windows XP With Service Pack 2
    [13:12:53.375]:Adapter: [Parallels Video Adapter]
    [13:12:53.375]:[Driver Version 6.14.10.3522] [WHQL Certified: No] [VendorID: 1ab8 (4005)]
    [13:12:53.375]:Video Memory: 153mb
    [13:12:53.375]:processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz: 2400
    [13:12:53.375]:Number of CPU Cores: 1
    [13:12:53.375]:SSE Supported: Yes
    [13:12:53.375]:System Ram: 1235 mb
[13:12:53.375]:pixel Shader: 2 Vertex Shader 1: FAILS min specs, requires version 2

Looks like it needs Vertex Shader 2. Is this something in the pipeline for Parallels 4.0?
