Force linux distribution to specific resolution

    Thanks to the hints given in these forums I´ve been able to install both Ubuntu 7.10 and Kubuntu 7.10 as described in http://kb.parallels.com/entry/32/568/0/ Since both these distributions fails to accept other resolutions than 1024x768, why can´t one force Ubuntu to only see that resolution?
    If that worked then X would start up and succeed in autodetecting the screen.
    If the bug is of a different kind than the one mentioned then let me know.
