My guest OS is XP home. I am trying to set up file sharing so I can transfer files from my Mac to XP. I have an ethernet connection from a cable modem

This comes from the Parallels discussion board. I did all the steps but what I don't know is

    1. On the OS X side do I use To computers using Select Airport. I don't use Airport

    2. On the Parallels side do I select Airport connection (en1)

    3. What does "Also you have to actually *start* web sharing by clicking the start button" My question is What start button?"

    INSTRUCTIONS FROM PARALLELS DISUCSSION BOARD

    On the OS X side:
Open system preferences-->Sharing->click on internet tab
Share your connection from: select Built in ethernet
    To computers using Select Airport
    Click on Services tab
make sure "Personal Web Sharing " is checked
    Click on firewall tab
if firewall is running, make sure box next to Personal web sharing is on

    close system preferences.

    Open parallels workstation
In the configuration panel, ie before you run the VM, click on Network Adapter
Check both boxes under device status
    Select Bridged Ethernet
select Airport connection (en1)<-- this is on MBP, iMac should be similar
    Boot your VM and voila.

Your VM is connecting to airport on the mac which connects it to built in ethernet
This works on an MBP even if Airport is off in the menuBar

Thanks, this helped me. I don't use Airport, so used the default adapter instead of the en1. Also you have to actually *start* web sharing by clicking the start button
