I have a MacBook Pro and I can't install Windows XP on Parallels. I tried holding the Fn key down and turning on the software option in the Keyboard/system preferences. The F8 key still doesn't work and I can't get past the agreement in the Windows XP set up. What now????
I would say that it might be handy if you could pull up a little floating window that would let you click to simulate keypresses for things like function keys and the numeric keypad, for people using laptops for which that's not always convenient.
Hi, I originally had the same problem. I just tried each shift key (fn, ctrl, option, splat) + F8 and eventually one of them 'worked'. Sorry that I can't give you an exact reply. John
Thanks, but still not working I tried all kinds of key combinations. No luck. It looks like I won't be purchasing Parallels. I'll have to stick to BootCamp. A shame. I was so used to VirtualPC. I liked having the parasitic OS readily available without rebooting. Parallels won't be working for me. By the way, Sheppy, what do you mean by "a lttle floating window"?
During XP setup at the start there is a license agreement and to accept the agreement you have to press [F8]
Ok, thanks. I installed XP Home and everything was just straight forward with my version. Since the install was rather uneventful, I can't recall anything unusual. Lucky break for me.....
was able to use F8 after connecting an external keyboard to my MacBook...All would be well, except Telnet refuses to connect (works fine with Bootcamp). It's always something.
