External dvd drive is slow

I'm using and external dvd drive (Sony DRU-830) via USB and it is super slow when copying data from a dvd. Bootcamp however is normal speed. Anyone else have similar situation?

 

How are you connecting it to VM?
Best way is to connect it as OSX drive, not through parallels usb.

 

VM device speed will never be equivlent to native (Bootcamp) speed. I'm sure they will continually optimize to close the gap, but if it's raw speed you want, you should boot natively.

 

Will this update improve the speed of my external DVD drive?
