This is going to seem like a real dumb thread potentially. I am using Parallels build 5160 and running Windows XP on a MacBook Pro. As opposed to backing up my .HDD, i duplicate it using Retrospect, creating an exact copy of it on my external drive. Unfortunately when I move the duplicate winxp.hhd onto the desktop of a second Mac Book Pro from my external drive, it identifies the file as a folder as opposed to a Parallels VM Hard Disk Image, so there is no way for me to attach the duplicate to the VM as another hard disk. I imagine I might be doing something wrong, but based on the research I have done thus far, I cannot solve the problem. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Wycliffe
I have not used Retrospect for many years so I can't tell you anything about why the copy you are making isn't working, but you might try just making a Finder copy of the .hdd file (by dragging it to your external drive), which as far as I know will be just as much a duplicate as any other copy. David, thanks for your response. I also discovered the Cloning function under the PD/File menu which worked perfectly.
