I'm using Parallels build 1970 on a 1st gen MacBookPro running 10.4.8 with 2 GB of RAM.

I have an external monitor set up with my MBP as the second display. In the displays control panel, I have the second monitor to the right and slightly above the MBP display (so that the bottom line of the second monitor is about halfway up the MBP screen). My virtual machine is full-screen on the second display. When I use the Start Menu or anything that uses mouse hovers, they mouse hovering stops at the top of the primary display, not the secondary display.

So when I open the start menu and move my mouse up it, normally the entry under my mouse is highlighted. As soon as my mouse moves past the top of the primary display (which is halfway up the secondary), the mouse highlighting stops. Clicking on things still works, but there's no hover feedback, which makes things somewhat annoying to work with in certain apps.

Has anybody seen this issue? I've attached a screenshot of my Displays control panel.

    Regards,

    Scott

If you put the 2nd monitor above or below the OS X desktop, then you will get no hovering at all. My temporary solution right now is to run the same vertical res in windows (1440x900 on OS X screen, 1280x900 on the windows monitor.) Then I move the position of the screen to be centered on the right. Now I always get hovering as long as the parallels full-screen windows is horizontally "in-line" with the OS X desktop.

This does leave black bars above and below my XP screen on that monitor (like widescreen format on a 4:3 tv.) But this isn't such a nuissance, it is giving me some space to put mac apps on that screen simeltaneously that will not be hidden behind windows.

Just thought I'd bring this back up - I upgraded to 3170 so that I could try out Coherence, and it's really cool if I'm just using my laptop monitor, but when I use my second display that is positioned higher in the Monitors control panel (see first post for details), Coherence won't let me position a Windows window on the second display above the top of the primary display. Make sense? Basically, Parallels thinks that both monitors stop at the top of the first, when in fact the second one has a different geometry.

I understand the difficulty of getting Windows to understand a non-rectangular monitor setup, but I'd be happy if I could just use Coherence on the second display. However, it seems to always stick to the primary.
