I just purchased Parallels 20 for Mac, upgrading from Parallels 18 permanent license. Paid $69.99. NOW they want another $69.99 (or more) to upgrade my Parallels 18 so it will upgrade to Parallels 20.
Can't even email customer support without paying another $30!!! I use Parallels rarely, only when really need a windows programs. I DON'T want to pay a yearly subscription for something I rarely use.

That is one of the most troubling aspects of using Parallels Desktop and quite frankly software subscriptions only make sense to the vendors of the products or enterprises that pay exorbitant fees for software and can shift costs from capital costs to operating costs. For consumers, software subscriptions never work except if you only use the software once in ten years or so. Parallels should offer a personal use option for consumers while businesses and commercial use of the production should pay for the software that is being used. I for one am switching back to VMware Fusion Pro due to the subscription nature of Parallels Desktop. I use virtualization primarily for accessing only one piece of software for forensics and just double checking lab instructions can be completed using Microsoft Windows as well. I rarely need Windows and of course VMware Fusion Pro also supports DirectX 11 (if you waste time and play games).
