I recently upgraded a Win 7 Pro VM to Win 8.1 Pro. The upgrade went smooth and all is well.

After the installation, I checked the configuration and noticed under Configure - Hardware - Hard Disk 1 the Source is listed as Win 7 Pro 64 bit. This is what I had originally named my Win 7 Pro VM prior to upgrading to Win 8.1 Pro. So my question is whether this needs to be changed to optimize the performance of the VM which is now running Win 8.1? If so, how?

Hi JAMiller, the source name listed under Hardware > Hard Disk 1 as Win 7 Pro 64 bit is the name of the original virtual Hard Disk (.hdd) and it should not be changed or renamed. To improve the performance of your Windows 8.1 Pro, perform the steps mentioned in this article and check how it goes.
