I upgraded to 3188, then installed a fresh copy of Win XP. DNS does not resolve any more. The DNS server shown is the private address for my Mac. I'm using shared networking, but it's the same problem with the other choices. Again, I can ping sites by IP and can browse web sites by entering the IP, but I cannot just type google.com or ping google.com. The Mac side has no problems, of course. Any help would be greatly appreciated...and I love Parallels (most of the time). The results of my ipconfig /all command is pasted below: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : brucecorker1685 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Parallels Network Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-B8-B3-E1-DC-D0 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.211.55.3 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.211.55.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.211.55.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.211.55.1 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, March 18, 2007 7:59:56 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, March 25, 2007 7:59:56 PM
A workaround is to open the Control Panel -> Network Connections, right click local connections -> properties -> tpcip and manually insert name servers into the panel. But also check to see that the correct Parallels Tools are installed by investigating the Parallels Tools properties on the Windows Task Bar. The version should be 2.5.3188.
I right-clicked and hit About. The Build is Build 3188 (07.03.2007) See image... The workaround worked...is this a known issue?
I noticed the same problem after taking this release. On my MBP, my wifi network location works just fine (which uses DHCP for the DNS servers), but my wired location (which uses a static IP and DNS) doesn't get picked up by Parallels' DHCP server.
