Hello, I've been using Parallels Desktop to run a Windows virtual machine (VM) on my MacBook Pro. I've run into a recurring issue where pressing the 'Command' key within the Windows environment triggers the Windows Start menu. This happens even when I press the Command key alone, without any additional keys. I've tried to alter the key mappings under the Mouse & Keyboard settings in the VM's configuration, but the problem persists. Also, I have checked the Parallels preferences for keyboard menu, application shortcuts, macOS System Shortcuts, as well as the Windows and OSX Keyboard Shortcuts, all to no avail. From my research, it seems that this is a common issue among Parallels users, and I've been unable to find a solution in the existing forum posts or the Parallels support documentation. Is there a way to disable the Command key from triggering the Start menu or to remap it to a different function? Any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and assistance.
Hello, As a possible solution, kindly follow the below steps to customize keyboard shortcuts: 1. Click the Parallels icon in the Mac menu bar and choose Preferences (or click on Parallels Desktop > Preferences). 2. Select the "Shortcuts" Tab. 3. Choose your VM from the list. (i.e., Windows virtual machine) 4. When you're using a Windows application, pressing a key combination in the From column triggers the key combination in the To column. If the lock icon is locked, click it and enter an administrator password. Do one of the following: 4.1 To edit an existing key combination, double-click the key combination, or select it and click the Edit button . Click modifier keys to select or deselect them. If you wish, change the character in the text field. 4.2 To delete a key combination, select it and click the Remove button . 4.3 To add a new key combination, click the Add button . I see that you've already tried some solutions, but the issue persists. One thing you could try is using third-party software like SharpKeys or KeyTweak to remap the Command key. Another option is to change the keyboard layout in Windows.
@Pramesh Boodadoo Your answer doesn't address the issue. The issue is when only the command key is pressed. This brings up the Windows menu, which is a problem, because it interferes with any combination that uses the command key - the Windows menu shows up before you are able to press the next key. There is no option in Preferences -> shortcuts to change what happens when you only press the command key, which is what the user above is asking about. Do you have a solution to this?
