When I run Parallels on SUSE SLED 10 logged in as a user I get an error message that "/dev/rtc is not available and there could be proplems". Parallels then is rather unstable and often will lock up. Logging in as root. is fine. Also when I change permissions on the rtc device (I presume "real time clock") as super user the problem goes away. I have the same problem with access to my modem from parallels. Fine as root, not available as user. Is there a configuration problem? I'm new to Linux. Are there any gurus out there who can tell me how to change permissions on these devices so that the changes persist between boots? Cheers
. When you start messing with device permissions, you are playing with fire. The safest thing would be to run as root. .
