Running Windows 11 on Parallels 26 on M4 Mac Mini. Parallels itself doesn't talk much if at all about the sleep settings in Windows 11 - they write about Pause, and about Suspend, but little about sleep and how it interacts with MacOS, and whether it is useful for a desktop, or a MacBook - for both, or neither. I encountered some unexpected overnight activities when my Mac was sleeping - certain Windows tasks that ran from time to time (visible in the Task Scheduler task history, and also visible in terms of new files indicating work was being done during these sleep periods). I think this is fairly normal - both Mac and Windows can operate periodially during "sleep" to execute some tasks, though you would think both would have to be awake at the same time for that to happen. There are surely many subtleties to how this works that are beyond what is documented or could be figured out by users precisely. Still, I was playing around a bit with Windows sleep settings, to see if I could understand more about how it works. I've not gotten too far, and now I would like to simply make sure I've restored the Windows settings to the Parallels defaults. My Windows settings are currently set to turn off display, and to sleep, after 30 minutes of inactivity. (It won't "turn off" the real display - I'm just saying, these are the current settings.) The places where this can be modified: 1) Windows Settings: on the settings page System > Power section called "Screen, sleep & hibernate timeouts" While I can change these values, I don't know what the originals were. There's more detail in the Control Panel, in the Power Options. Two power plans are listed: Balanced, and Parallels. It's safe to assume Parallels inserts the Parallels power plan. Unfortunately, I can't tell from here either what the original, defaults, were. If I go into "Change plan settings" for the Parallels plan, which is the plan that is selected, the first page just shows the same two settings for display power timeout and sleep that I can see in the Settings page. If I click into "Change advanced power settings" there are a number of more subtle adjustments possible. Here, again, I can adjust the Sleep "Sleep after" timer, and the Display "Turn off display after" timer, and again they show the same times I have seen on all the other pages. Finally, though, there is what looks like a helpful button to solve my problem - "Restore plan defaults". I've tried changing the sleep and display timers to various new numbers, expecting to then be able to restore the plan defaults, but that restore button is never even enabled. Maybe it only is a useable button if you change some of the more "exotic" settings which I haven't played with (like PCI Express, or wake timers). So, I'm at an impasse. Maybe the easiest thing is to ask the community - if someone has never touched their settings, what are they? Thirty minutes set for display and for sleep? Or, Never? Something else? Anyone who knows more about these Windows sleep settings and how they interact with Mac sleep - love to hear from you! Thanks all.
