could be parallels messing /etc/pam.d/other?

yesterday I installed RC of parallels. today superduper stopped working and also bash (opening the terminal woud only give me a "[Process was terminated by signal 10]").

since the only thing I installed between yesterday and today was RC I thought it could be that the origin of the problems (it did weird stuff with permissions before). I installed by previously running the uninstall script.

removing RC and rebooting gave no solution, so I started investigating and saw that /etc/pam.d/other was messed. original was like (rescued from a backup done yesterday before installing RC):

    # other: auth account password session
    auth required pam_deny.so
    account required pam_deny.so
    password required pam_deny.so
    session required pam_deny.so

    current is:

    uestWithAuditInfo)
May 18 08:08:17 [1504] (ipc/rcv) invalid name: CGXRunOneServerPass: mach_msg (gServiceSet) failed (last RPC: LaunchAppRequestWithAuditInfo)
    May 18 08:08:17 [1504] (ipc/rc

I was wondering if RC was the cause (and raise a BIG RED FLAG to other folks) or it has nothing to do with RC and start looking elsewhere.

    regards.

    Weird issues...

I was actually seeing weird things like this before installing the RC. I currently have Beta 6, but this may have been occurring before then.

In addition to terminal not working I'm also seeing weird issues with X11. Other applications fail to launch intermittently.

Run Disk Utility and check your disk. The above sounds like corrupted filesystem structures.

    I'll do that tomorrow, thanks.

Finally I did get to revert the bad file, so I'm up and running fine again. I also rolled back to beta 6, which is better than RC in diverse fronts IMHO.

    cheers!

thanks palter, that was it. I ran Disk Utility and found lots of problems, but it did get to repair at the four attempt.

    cheers.
