    Running Lion and Parallels 6.

Click on menu to configure the VM. Configuration dialog opens but cannot be seen unless you look for it via expose (show all open windows for app - 3 finger down gesture). Click on the dialog in expose but it never activates for me to configure the VM.

Any fixes or help greatly appreciated. Thanks

I guess I'll have to join this party... same issue. I don't see the Configure wizard no matter what I do. Also, other VM's work fine as far as opening Configure.

Same here. Also, some of my Virtual Machine windows don't come up. Completely unusable. Not like Apple has announced Lion months ago and opened the beta to developers. I don't get these things.

    update

I used the Help, "Report a problem..." option to generate a report ID number and then submitted a problem ticket with support. My note read as follows:

    ---------------------------------------
Choosing Configure opens the configure "wizard" for some VMs but not others. My main VM does not work. It appears as though, when selected, Configure tries to open. The VM Lists window looses focus but there's no Configure window to be found.

To reproduce: Open the VM List and context click on any of the VMs listed. For me, some VMs open the configure window and some don't.
    ---------------------------------------

I think that describes well enough what we are experiencing. I also included the URL to this thread so add more information if you wish just in case they check here too.

I submitted this as a severity level two.

I think there's some sort of limit to the number of times we can create a ticket so you may want to wait and see if this reporting does the trick before submitting a request yourself. I'll update this thread if/when there are more updates.

    Kind regards,

    Randall

I did the same thing yesterday, created a support ticket. The more people who put in the support ticket for this issue, the faster they will be to respond.

Here was their response to request as written above:

    =====================================
    Hello Randall,

Thank you for contacting Parallels Technical Support.

With reference to your issue we understand that in some Virtual Machines you are unable to use configure option.

Randall, please be informed that some of these settings can be changed only when the virtual machine is not running. It means to do the changes in configuration your Virtual Machines should be stopped status.

I assume you are trying to do the configuration changes when your Virtual Machine is shut down status, regarding Configuring the Virtual Machine you may refer the following link: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v6/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/23076.htm and navigate to the required pages.

I am changing the ticket status to 'Resolved' and you can reply to this ticket with in 14days from now.

Please let us know if you would require further assistance on the same.

    Thanks,

    Same thing here

I'm having the same issue and didn't see this thread. I made a video my issue to help clarify things...

Uh, looks like you were able to open the Configure window. Was that not what I saw there?

    Configure VM Inaccessible

Based your response, I will clarify my video. The configure VM window does open, but it is not accessible. I cannot click on it, no matter what approach I take to launching it. I also demonstrate that the VM is in the off state and that the Parallels preferences are configurable.

Unfortunately, I am not interested in modifying the preferences of the Parallels application. I want to modify the configuration of the VM. Which I cannot bring to the foreground for editing even though it is "open".

    Thanks for the reply

Ah, thanks for the clarification, I suppose it's all the same issue or at least related. Sounds like Parallels has a great deal of work to do to call their product compatible with Lion.

Workaround: delete OS-X spaces as suggested in a KB article

The following KB article describes a workaround that helped me resolve the problem described in this thread:

    http://kb.parallels.com/111682

It talks about vanished VM windows. Apparently configuration windows vanished the same way, so I thought this suggested fix might help here, too.

Nevertheless, Parallels should fix this in the next release, as this is clearly only a workaround...

    Hope this helps.

    Resolution, this worked for me.

    Hello Randall,

Your issue is handled by second line Technical Support. You should apply the solution listed in this article (it should work for configuration dialog too):

    http://kb.parallels.com/111682

You may add spaces back once the solution is applied. I am closing your ticket as resolved, feel free to reopen it by your reply if the issue still persists and you need further assistance.

    Best regards,

I deleted the spaces and then added them back. I didn't leave Parallels in space one but put it back where I wanted it. It seems to work as expected.

    Partial fix

This worked for me to access the VM's however I can only get at the config menu for my 1st listed VM. The 1st VM is a Window 7 bootcamp based VM (which now tells me its not an authentic install, but is still authentic in bootcamp).

But, I can not access the config menu for my 2nd VM (Windows XP) which is now having network issues.

    Blame boot camp not Parallels

    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/03/boot-camp-in-lion-requires-windows-7/

Apple's latest version of OS X 10.7 Lion ships with Boot Camp 4 which, according to an Apple support document, only runs Windows 7. Previous versions of Windows like Vista and XP are no longer supported. There's no reason for this change, but Apple, like Microsoft, is likely increasing its focus on the newer OS and lessening it on legacy versions.

Mac users that must run an older version of Windows will either have to keep Boot Camp 3 if they wish to upgrade to Lion or use a third-party virtualization solution from VMWare or Parallels.

    I'm not blaming anybody, but..

Per my post the issue is Config for a Parallels XP VM and has nothing to do Bootcamp. It is definitely a Parallels issue.

Window 7 (Bootcamp) not properly authenticating when running as a Parallels VM is a parallels issue. http://kb.parallels.com/9703
However, if I was to blame somebody it would be Microsoft for their horrible authentication algorithm.

Networking issue turn out to be Lion which does not share Snow Leopard SMB file shares.
Fix for that is to simply turned off SMB shares and then turn them back on again.
