Basically I can't start a cloned XP virtual machine which is located on a FW drive. When I try, I get the eternal spinning beach ball, and a hosed restart (gets stuck at the initial gray screen). This will only resolve if I unplug the FW drive. The original XP virtual machine located on the hard drive starts and runs fine.

I have searched and found one other poster who says he runs a vm (probably not a clone) over a mini-stack firewire drive. So I'm wondering if this is a typical clone problem, or in fact a FW drive issue.

This seems to be a common issue...

Do you know if this is a common issue with all clones, or just those located on external drives (FW)? Thanks for the reply.

I too run XP from both an external and USB external drive, without a problem.

    It is not a clone!

An issue when an external is attached at the same time as running the VM. I seem to have seen this at least twice before...
