Cisco VPN seems to affect network connectivity negatively (W7, MACB Pro)

I have a MacBook Pro (2014) with a Windows 7 VM. This is a work VM and it requires a Cisco VPN client to connect. Starting the VM without the VPN gives me normal network connectivity. When I start the VPN through the Cisco VPN client, after about 10 to 15 seconds the network connectivity seems to stop completely. Only the VPN is affected, my MAC is still working as normal.

Any thoughts anyone? I know I am not providing a lot of information but this is all I got so far. I am hoping that some of you can give me some pointers where to look or what to try.
