I have noticed that when I am running Parallels (Windows XP, in coherence or in windowed mode), my computer will not boot CDs or DVDs. As soon as I shut down XP, the inserted disk immediately shows up on my desktop. I am on a MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM, OS X 10.4.8 Any ideas? By the way...other than this issue, the Parallels program is great! Cheers Dan
Have you tried going to the devices menu and selecting CD/DVD-ROM then Default CD/DVD-ROM, should be the first option. This is meant to unmount the disk from OS X and mount it in windows. I have a very similar setup and have had no problems, although i admin the CD/DVD mounting is a little confusing.
This is normal situation. When Parallels running and you have your CD/DVD connected to it (see documentation about connecting and disconnecting), your mac can't operate CD/DVD, because Windows exclusively locks it.
