First of all, this is my first post on a message board so forgive me as I learn the protocol. My problem: I can't get my Windows XP Virtual Machine to successfully use Windows Update (error number 0x80072EE2) and when I download Service Pack 1, 2 or 3 (the full version) and try to install any of them I get an error saying 'The expected version of the product was not found on your system'. I've read countless FAQs and dug as far into the troubleshooting on the Microsoft web site that I can follow (I'm not exceptionally proficient in computer speak). Any thoughts? Below is a beat by beat breakdown of what's happened since I first tried to install Parallels... in case it by some chance helps with troubleshooting. ----------------------------- I purchased my MacBook Pro from Apple about four months ago with the Leopard OS. I used Boot Camp with my copy of Windows XP Pro Version 2002 but hated having to reboot to use a Windows only program. So I purchased Parallels from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Even though the Parallels manual said that I could use my Boot Camp install, I decided to delete that partition altogether and start over with a Virtual Machine created by Parallels. I installed Parallels 3.0 without a problem. Then I installed XP Pro and it locked before install was complete. I then created a new virtual machine and tried another install. This one worked so I deleted the first VM. I then installed Kasperkey and it errored out before completing a scan. I then went to the MS Windows website to Update my version of XP Pro (Service Pack 3 is now available) and the web site timed out saying it encountered an error trying to evaluate what updates my machine needs. I`ve tried to update several times each day for the past few days. I then successfully updated Parallels to build number 5608, but this did not help with any of the issues I was having. I then deleted this virtual machine (thinking that perhaps when I deleted the first VM I may have lost a file that the second VM needed and also now that I had the latest build of Parallels the XP install might work better) and created a new VM. During this install the system locked again. I forced the VM to close and deleted it. I closed Parallels, rebooted the Mac and then restarted Parallels. I then created what was now the fourth VM (though I was now deleting the bad ones before creating the new ones so there would only be one on the system at a time). There were problems that caused the VM to reboot several times during the XP Pro install, but in the end it was able to recover and complete. However it is very unstable, locking up regularly, and I am still unable to successfully use Microsoft Update or Kasperkey. Also, for what it's worth, with this last install it did not automatically install Parallels Tools (I manually did it from the menu). I have since downloaded Service Packs 1, 2 and 3 (full version) and get the error "The expected version of the product was not found on your system" when I try to install. I`ve read the manual virtually cover to cover as well as the online FAQ but just can`t figure out why I`m having so many problems.
