Reading the thread on issues installing Bootcamp Tools with XP Corporate I wonder if I'm not alone with a similar issue. Is anyone running XP Pro with the latest Parallels on a Macbook or Macbook Pro. Did you have issues with the internal keyboard and trackpad. How are these resolved when once in XP to login you can't get out to use the Paralleles Menus to install the tools. Any help would be appreciated this is such a time waster. Kind Regards Eric
Press <ctrl>-<option> to release the keyboard and mouse if it is stuck in parallels. I think it says this in the lower left corner of the window...
Hi Unused That's the problem. It says there (bottom left) Click inside the OS Window to capture the mouse. Clicking inside as directed switches the mesaage to Press Ctrl Alt to release. But the there is no mouse control or keyboard response in XP and so no login ability. But I can release fine. Bottom right of the window has the various floppy, drive usb icons etc. Choosing Apple Internal Keyboard/Trackpad there give me control when I next click inside the OS window to capture the mouse. BUT the Ctrl Alt message on the left does not reappear and Ctrl Alt no longer releases the mouse. This is what I meant by "can't get out" I've just repeated it for the 15th time to be sure and am back in Win XP with no out except to shut down XP Kind Regards Eric
Oh... I see. Make sure that you do not connect the keyboard/mouse to Parallels in the USB menu. This will cause Parallels to "take control" of your keyboard to the extent that Mac OS will not be able to use it anymore. You will have to reboot your VM with the usb options unchecked in order to get XP to talk to the simulated PS2 keyboard and mouse that is provided by Parallels.
Precisely what I'm experiencing. Stuck here though. Until I connect the keyboard/mouse from the usb menu I cannot get any communication (keyboard or mouse) in the VM in order to select reboot. Tried Reset to no avail. Tried sending the Break key in the hope i triggered the login but I'm clutching at straws. Kind Regards Eric
You did click in the window before trying to press keyboard buttons, correct? Are you requiring <ctrl>-<alt>-<del> to log in? That key combination is really hard to press on a mac, as you have to press <fn> to get <alt> and <del>
Absolutley. Process is launch Parlleles. Windows starts up in the VM to the login screen. Click inside the VM window to capture the mouse. End of story in Windows. No response. Ctrl Opt/Alt click and the Mac cursor returns. No. From memory that shut down windows. To login I need to click a button or press the Enter or Return key in Windows. I was hoping that send Break might achieve the same thing. But it doesn't. The only way I get Windows mouse and keyboard control is through the USB Menu which you correctly observe locks me out of switching back to the mac which prevents me then instaling Parallels tools. I have to say here that this was a perfectly functional installation until Parallels auto update check advised that there was a new version which I duely installed. Kind Regards Eric
Exactly the same problem I am having the same problem with my macbook and XP professional; XP (from a bootcamp partition) boots up fine in parallels, but the XP login screen cannot take trackpad of keyboard input, even if i click in the window. i have also experienced the horror of capturing the mac keyboard via devices->usb->keyboard and then having a mac which cannot see the keyboard or trackpad and which can only be restored by hard shutdown. the last posting was a couple of weeks ago; is there a resolution? thanks.
