Same problem. Cannot install Parallels Desktop-4 for Windows andLinux.
    Hardware: Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5890
Host OS: Ubuntu 10.04 new build
I did have the trial version installed under Ubuntu 9.10. When I upgraded to 10.04, I was unable to install a new trial version, so I bought the package, uninstalled the trial version, and started from scratch.

I gave up with Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows and Linux. Two platforms:

    1) Windows 7 Pro 64-bit as host will install Parallels but when trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 as guest from a Live CD attempts to boot (Ubuntu logo shows up) and then I get an error message saying that a live CD can't be found. I removed Parallels and installed VirtualBox and had no problems installing Ubuntu with the same Live CD.

    2) Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 as host doesn't even install Parallels. I've done all the suggestions I've found everywhere.

I've been passing email back and forth with Parallels on these problems and they haven't found a fix yet. Too bad. I love Parallels 5 on my iMac.

And I am having the same issue. My OS is Ubuntu 10.04 64 on an AMD Turion 64.

We need to give up on this. Parallels team tells me that they do not yet support Ubuntu 10.04.
