I have already upgraded to snow leopard, PDT for mac notifies me of the new upgrade, I go though the following steps:
    1. Parallels update 4.0.3846 available: I click Install.
    2. Welcome to parallels Desktop 4 Mac Installer, I go through all the steps.
Introduction>read me>license>feedback(i click No)>installer closes for no reason. Other attempts, it goes all the way to last button to install then closes. On some attempts the read me and license text is missing and it is a blank page. The last time when the installer closed, I get a error message " The operation couldnt be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecountroller error-1.) Couldn't open "Install.mpkg". Every other time I try to download it goes up to you disagree to the feedback box and than it closes the installer and does nothing.
    Any ideas?

    Inability to load

I have almost the identical problem on the IMac. I upgraded the machine to Snow Leopard about 2 weeks ago and shortly afterwards tried to install Parallels Update 4.0.3846. I get as far as the 'welcome' screen before the installation programme automatically cuts out. I continue to receive the upgrade request every time I start Parallels.

On the MacBook Pro, also using the previous Parallels version (4.0.3844), after installing the Snow Leopard upgrade, Parallels wouldn't start at all. It required a reformat and complete reinstallation of all the software and data before I could get Parallels working again. However that machine too will not accept the upgrade. There would seem to be an interface problem between Snow Leopard and Parallels. I would be equally interested to see if anyone can come up with a solution

I had this problem, and was directed to manually download the update from the parallels site, which I did.
I had installation issues with the upgrade so logged a ticket with Apple. They responded the same day with this, which fixed my problem - I had to go for the uninstall/reinstall option, but it's back and running at last!

Thank you for contacting Parallels Technical Support.

Please go to Finder --> Applications and then try to launch Parallels Desktop.

If not able to start the Parallels then please go to Finder --> Users --> Library --> Preferences and delete all the .plist starting from COM.PARALLELS.

If the issue still exists, we need to uninstall and re-install Parallels Desktop.

Uninstalling and re-installing Parallels Desktop will not affect your Virtual Machine in any way.

The data and the applications will be safe in your Virtual Machine.

Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    Hello,

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Launch the Installer.app from /System/Library/CoreServices/

    2. Install.mpkg in Parallels Desktop DMG file is hidden so you need to enable hidden files. To do it please open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal), copy and Paste the following command:

    defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

    Hit Return.

    3. To make the command take effect, you need to restart the Finder: hold down the Option key, then click and hold on the Finder icon in the Dock. When the contextual menu appears, select Relaunch and the Finder will restart.

    4. Click File -> Open in the Installer window and browse for Parallels Desktop DMG file mounted in Finder on the left panel (red Parallels Desktop disk icon). Click on Install.mpkg. Now Paralles Desktop should install properly.
    5. Since you do not need to show hidden files anymore, please copy and paste the following command in Terminal:

    defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

Hit return and relaunch Finder once again.
