When I try to update Parallels 5 from build 9220 to the current build within Parallels, I get an error that all required files are not available. When I try to download the file for manual update, I get a file like ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9370.589435.dmg or ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9370.589435(2).dmg or ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9370.589435(3).dmg -- (once from the web site and once for each of two different links provided by Parallels support). Each of these files is 223.7 MB. Each file when double clicked produces a window that says "verifying", then "attaching", and then (eventually) a new window that says the disk image failed to mount due to a timeout. Help?
I downloaded ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-5.0.9370.589435.dmg and it mounted perfectly (I'm using Snow Leopard). The image file is exactly 234,548,453 bytes with a creation/modification date of Monday, July 19, 2010 8:05 AM. Restart the computer, quit everything, run Disk Utility. Drag the .dmg file to Disk Utility. Select the .dmg in Disk Utility. Click Open. Does it attach successfully? If not, check the console log. Do you have problems mounting other .dmg files?
great fix Your solution worked perfectly and quickly; I will have to remember the the Disk Utility can mount disk images. It is strange that Parallels tech support did not know about this. -- and so far, the only disk image file that has not mounted correctly by double-clicking the .dmg file on my Leopard computer is the one from Parallels. thanks
