Cannot Increase Virtual Diskspace for Windows 7 Using Configure - Hard Drive Menu

    Hi,

I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.26 GHz MacPro4,1 with 16 GB memory. I have virtual Windows 7 installed on a separate 2 TB Hitachi hard drive within the MacPro. This hard drive has 1.42 TB of free disk space available on it. My MacPro is using Mac OS X 10.6.8. There are no snapshots of this VM and it is **not** in Bootcamp..

The problem that I am having is I need to increase the allotted disk space for Windows 7 from 256 GB to 512 GB. When I try to do it using the Hard Disk 1 option in the Configure (Hardware) window, it runs through the motions of increasing the disk space from 256 to 512 GB and seemingly successfully does it. However, when it restart Windows 7, either it boots and still has only 256 GB disk space allotted to Windows 7 or it simply crashes and I have to spend time getting it to work again.

    What am I doing wrong?

I can I used the Hard Disk 1 option to work and increase the disk space allotted to Windows 7 from 256 to 512 GB?

    Best wishes,

    Paul

The Virtual HD is 512 GB but the Windows (NTFS) partition is still 256, it needs to be expanded inside the Virtual Machine and Parallels can't do that, it has to be Windows or another utility running in the VM (fdisk).

How To Increase The Windows (NTFS) partition ??

Thank you for your reply. Using either Windows or or another utility running in the VM, how exactly does a person increase the Windows (NTFS) partition to 512 MB?

    Best wishes,

    Paul

resizing disk you need to check 'Resize system partition' to make this extra space visible to Windows OS
