When running my Windows 7 VM on my Mac (OS 10.6.4 with Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac) I found that I could read and write data files that reside in my Mac partition Documents folder using Windows applications and Windows Explorer. I like the idea of this because I don't have to maintain two separate folders for a project that requires both Mac and Windows applications. I'm not sure if this is advised because of the two OSs' different file systems. Because this seems to work well, I'm thinking that Parallels Desktop for Mac translates the filing systems so that Windows is actually reading and writing the HFS disc format using either a driver or some other software. Is it okay to do this, or is it an accident waiting to happen?
