Since upgrading to Parallels 9 Desktop, I can no longer open Word or Excel files saved on a particular network share using the Mac version of Word or Excel. I'm not positive this problem is related to Parallels 9, but based on some of the postings I've seen here in the forums, I'm beginning to think they may be. I can open these files using Word or Excel 2010 in Windows 7 Pro VM, but I can no longer open them in Word or Excel 2011 for Mac (host). I can Get Info on the files, and do a Quick View. But I cannot not open them. When I attempt to open these files I get error messages like the following: . I am able to open files created by any other software apps on the same network share. I can also open all Office files on the local hard drive and other network shares using Word and Excel for Mac. But all office files on this particular network share cannot be accessed.
Hi Dpbrick, To access Word and Excel files on your Mac, Please follow the steps given : http://kb.parallels.com/114124 Thanks, Manoj D
Thank you for your reply, Manoj D. Unfortunately, the KB you referred me to does not deal with the problem I am experiencing. It refers to trying to open Office files on the Mac side using the Windows guest OS or vice versa. This is not the problem I am having. I am trying to open a Mac Office file on the Mac side. This is when I get various error messages, including 'file not found', depending on which specific Office application I'm using. This seems to have started about the time I upgraded to Parallels Desktop version 9. Also, our IT department has received reports of similar behavior throughout our school district. They're still trying to narrow down the cause, but I thought perhaps if the problem is related to Parallels 9 that similar symptoms might have been reported here in the forums. -- What's really strange -- and I've only just discovered this -- is that I can go into the Windows guest OS and using Explorer, right-click on any of these same files (that I'm unable to open directly in the Office for Mac app) and select "Open on Mac", and they will open perfectly using the appropriate Office for Mac apps. That also seemed to confirm that Parallels might be involved with the problem. -- Again, the problem behavior only happens on network shares.
Hi dpbrick, Please try re-installing Parallels Tools in your Virtual Machine following all steps @ http://kb.parallels.com/8969 Thanks, Looran
