I've had my mac bootcamped for some time now, but was thinking I might just import my data into Parallels and from here on out run it as a VM. If I understand the documentation correctly, once I run the import, the Parallels VM and bootcamped Windows are completely separate. This leads me to believe that it wouldn't cause any problems if I just got rid of my mac's bootcamp partition. Can anyone confirm whether this is true?

bump. Any luck with this? I would also like to preserve my Windows installation (programs, settings, et al.) while reclaiming the bootcamp drive space.

no luck, I have been told that I can't delete the partition because it is reading from that space.
