OK I managed to get past the black screen of death by holding down the FN and F8 keys, thanks to those that posted how to load XP in 'safe' mode. BUT now my problem is that XP can't log me on, my password doesn't seem to work! I upgraded to this build from 1970 where i had no problems for months. I have a MBP core2duo w/2gb of ram and 900mb dedicated to XP pro SP2. I uninstalled build 3186, reinstalled 1970...loged into windows XP no problem, made sure i shut down windows, and stopped the VM. And proceeded to upgrade to 3186 again. Again started in safe mode and again I couldn't log on to windows! Any ideas???
Please load Windows in 1970, log in and then remove password from Administrator's account. After that try to update and load in safe mode, I hope you will be able to do it without password.
