Running RC2 When using a Windows Mobile Device (T-Mobile Dash specifically) to tether an internet connection (from the phone to the MacBook Pro,) Parallels reports the device is in use by another process. However, while the Modal Parallels dialog box is up, the VM is correctly able to connect to the phone, get an IP addresss and connect to the Internet. However, since the Parallels dialog box is on the screen, I cannot interact with the VM and closing the Parallels dialog box causes the USB device to disconnect. This problem did not occur in RC1. Steps to Repro: 1) On Windows Mobile 5.0 Device (T-Mobile Dash for example) select Internet Connection Sharing. At this point the device will say waiting for USB Connection 2) Attach cable to MacBook - device will still say waiting 3) Select 'Generic RNDIS' from USB device menu You will hear connect tones from windows, the mobile device will say connected, parallels dialog will pop up indicating device is in use. If you close the parallels dialog, the mobile device will disconnect. Thanks!
Also, to be clear, if you never close the Parallels dialog, the WM device will never disconnect, so in this new version (RC2), it appears the logic behind detecting if the device is in use is broken as Parallels correctly grabbed the device and reported someone else had it in use.
Upgraded to the latest release and this is still happening. USB support is getting worse and worse. If you need help regression testing, I am sure members of the community will gladly help out. As it is I don't see how you can advertise USB support outside of a few web cams and select storage devices. USB seems to be broken for the MAJORITY of USB devices. Smart Cards, Smart Phones, many many web cams and storage devices... Its great that you guys got iSight working but did it have to come at the expense of soo many other class of devices? Sorry to sound harsh but it feels like no one from Parallels is listening!
Well I've tried quite a few USB devices - 3 different Windows Mobile devices, USB security keys, and other junk. All worked perfectly. Its gotten quite a bit better for me through the builds. The only time I've had an issue was doing a ROM update on a Dell Axim. Lots of people have had many successes with USB.
Really? How odd. Would you mind providing the Windows Mobile Devices that worked? Specifically, what version of WM were they running? USB Security keys, are these smartcard readers or USB disks that have a key file on them? What is odd is that these devices used to work great for me. Flawlessly under RC1. When RC2 came out it went to hell in a handbag. Hoped it was just a glitch and would be fixed in RC3 (RC3 did come out pretty quick after RC2.) And then the release. Each one has brought a new set of problems. Hey, if it's just my configuration, I'll gladly unload and reinstall whatever kernel module they say, but right now my USB config is seriously messed up. Which is sad, cause it means I cannot use the product. (My co requires a smartcard login.)
FYI my Smartcard reader for remote access to the company works great in Parallels, at first I was a dumb ass and didn't realize I needed to enable it from the Devices menu but once I did that it works a champ!
Well my smartcard reader (and my phone) gives me the whole USB Device is busy error message. Whats really odd is that Windows connects and sees both the smartcard and mobile phone WHILE the Parallels error message is displayed. Whien I click OK on the error message, the device disconnects. So it appears like Parallels doesn't understand that it's the thing that has the device.
I am using a Motorola Treo 700wx, a Dell Axim 51v, and MDA II. As for the USB security keys, they are RSA keys that give you two factor authentication. They aren't memory keys.
