I have messed up installation of Parallels and now cannot get into Bootcamp - various dark error messages one of which is hal.dll missing but there are several others. I have tried various remedies from other posts but without success. My iMac will not boot from the XP install disc when I try to boot into Bootcamp which is one of the recommended methods of resstoring the MBR.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Create a new XP VM leaving the existing Bootcamp partition as is and then migrate the data and the few installed applications from BC to the new XP VM. Once that is done i would get rid of the BC partition altogether. One problem I can see is whether I can have two installs of XP on the same machine. I can't get rid of the existing one because I cannot get into BC.
The only thinds I use XP for watching live baseball on MLB.com which I cannot do on the Mac and Photoshop Elements 5. I have a large number of photos etc in the XP partition.
I have been using computers for many years but only switched to the Mac recently so do not have a great deal of technical knowledge about OSX.
Can anyone give me any help?
