Just attempted to upgrade from Parallels Desktop 4 to "ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-6.0.11992.625164". Mac OS 10.6.5 fully up to date. Windows XP SP3 Boot Camp partition recently upgraded to latest Boot Camp 3.2 revision. Running free Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus, and the free version of ad-aware for extra malware protection (manual scans only).

This Boot Camp partition was running just fine in Parallels Desktop 4, both before and after upgrading the Boot Camp drivers. And since the installation of Parallels 6.1192 it still is basically running OK, except for a warning message that Parallels Tools are outdated.

Every time I boot, the Tools installer runs automatically, appears to complete, and says I have to reboot to complete the installation. If I click Restart, the VM restarts and the installer runs again. If I click Later, Windows seems to be running just fine except for the message that Tools are outdated.

So I used the Windows Control Panel (Add and Remove Programs) to completely remove Parallels Tools. Restarted, then installed Parallels Tools from scratch. That seems to have cured the endless loop.

So Parallels team, you seem to have an easily fixed installer bug. The upgrade ought to fully remove the old Tools before installing the new ones, but obviously is not doing it well enough. Maybe the restart between removal and installation steps is essential, even though it is a bit annoying (in part because you have to hold control and option keys to get the mouse pointer out of the Windows window to allow access to the Mac menu bar).
