Hi guys, I searched the forum and couldn't find any related post. Please direct me to one if I'm wrong. The issue I'm having is that when I step away from my computer I typically put my Mac into the Login Window to lock my computer while I'm away. When I resume (re-login to my account) the Parallels screen is just black. I still see programs running (they show up in my OS X dock) but I can't actually see anything in Parallels Desktop. This happens both in Coherence mode and regular mode. Even switching back/forth between different views doesn't help. The only thing that fixes it is to actually restart the Guest OS (Virtual Machine > Restart). I've disabled the Guest OS screen saver, all power options are set to Never Turn Off including the monitor, hard disks, etc. Any ideas what could be going on? My specific versions of stuff: Parallels Desktop 9: Build 9.0.24172 Revision 951362 Host OS: Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 Guest OS: Windows 8.1 Pro Many thanks in advance for any and all help!
Hi parallelsuser1, You would need to fix corrupted or missing system file that prevents Windows from booting normally. Please follow the steps outlined on this link: http://kb.parallels.com/114823 Thanks, Looran
Thanks very much for your response, Looran. What you're suggestion seems to address the issue of a Blank screen after Windows boots up. My Windows guest OS seems to boot up normally. I have shutdown and booted normally, restarting also works normally. The issue that I'm seeing specifically is that the screen goes Blank/Black (after it has already been up and running for some time) when I return to my Mac after going to the Login Window (essentially locking my screen) after some time. Do I understand you correctly that the fix in that KB article would also address this specific issue? Thanks!
I'm having trouble with this save affect. Windows is booting and working fine before I'm locking out from *MAC*. After that Windows is in black screen and not responding to mouse. I'm able to send Ctrl-Alt-Delete and Windows Task manager is shown ( therefore Windows is working ). But no matter what I do, screen stays black when exiting Task manager. Only resolution to this I know is to restart Windows. This has always fixed the problem and I'm able to use Windows until next lock out from Mac
Sounds like the same issue, ToniLe. I'm glad I'm not alone. Hopefully someone from Parallels will speak up on the issue.
I am having the same issue. Very annoying losing work daily due to it. Parallels? It's been almost a year.
