Hi, I have recently upgrade to Parallels 5 for Mac. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6, inside Parallels 5 I run Windows XP SP3. When I work in full screen mode every now and then I see black rectangles flicker and disappear. I think it has something to do with Mac improved quick look for movies and pdfs. If for example you start playing music file on your desktop using quick look (just click play in the middle of the music file icon, not open it) and then slide to the second desktop on which Parallels is open in full screen mode you will see black rectangle where the music is playing. The rectangles appear in places where icons located on the Mac desktop. Hope I was clear enough, Ido.
I encountered this issue by running Windows 7 guest in Snow Leopard host with Desktop 5. My full screen size is 1280x1024. The black rectangle flicks all the time. After I changed screen resolution to 1280x960 in Windows 7, this black rectangle gone. The issue still not resolved in 1280x1024, I assume this issue can be fixed.
Not Resolved To Me Hi, This issue has not been resolved, at least not that I know of. Now you mention the resolution I think in my computer it also only happen in specific resolution and not in other, but I don't have my large screen right now so I don't remember exactly which resolution it was. I'll post it here when I'll have it. I just ignore it. It's a problem but I can live with it. Ido
I think I missed some important troubleshooting information. My host machine is Mac Mini with 4GB RAM (only 3GB in use), and the physical display chipset model is Intel GMA 950. The Desktop 5 for Mac version is 5.0.9344.558741. The display settings for guest machine is the defaults. It can be repro'ed on both Windows 7 guest and Windows 2003 guest. The problem with this workaround is, everytime I switch to full screen mode, it always automatically set to 1280x1024, which is the best resolution of my LCD display. No matter what the resolution last time I set to. So I have to set to 1280x960 again and again each time when back to full screen mode. What a pain! So it's a big impact to me. Such a small issue means much to me. I hope Parallels can file this bug and triage it seriously. Thanks.
Parallels 6 and balck rectangle flicker still exists Hi, Parallels 6 on Mac Mini 2,1 with Windows 7 32-bit guest and still same. I'm a new user to Parallels and need to permanently remove this black rectangle flicker. The rectangle will appear front center quite large or top right quite small reverting always to the front center large eventually. I have to choose 1280x960 EVERY time I use the Windows 7 vm to clear the condition. I'll test another display monitor to see but I only *own* the one monitor so ... shouldn't this software virtualise the display settings appropriately? I don't understand the relevance of this rectangle artifact if someone could explain it to me. It'd be make monitor selection for Parallels 6 easier ... unless of course it's the chip in the Mini that's the issue? Thanks
I think i have the answer I've had this problem before - made a change and it's all fine now. Check the x-bit resolution of your windows environment. When my resolution was 8 bit - black screen and would take a long time to get back from a black screen. Changed the resolution to 32-bit color - all fine.
Improved I've conceded to running Windows7Pro on a separate laptop now due to RAM constraints. I think the later version of Parallels did improve for this or maybe it was that I avoided full screen modes and Unity etc. not sure. My issue was that all settings that could (and did) correct the condition reverted regardless when I next opened the vm. I doubt I'll get around to checking this to confirm it since I uninstalled Parallels now (I don't need it). I don't own the latest paid upgrade either. Cheers for your response on this.
