Hi, I am using Parallels workstation 2.1 beta 5, for Mac OS X, and I have an application installed within a Windows XP Pro SP2 VM that requires the installation CD to be in the CD drive while the application is running. However, when I place the application's install CD in the drive; and run the application it gives an error asking me to place the installation CD in the drive, enough though it is already in the drive. The application installs correctly without any problems; however, when it executes it cannot seem to validate that the correct CD is, in fact, already in the drive. The application is a game called Medieval: total war. It's not something I play often, but I thought it was interesting that this type of recognition error occurred. Kevin
I have the same with an application whitch is looking for the copy protected orginal cd. Cheers Frank
We emulate CD/DVD ROM drive. Now we can't make full emulation of specific CD commandsfor your disk, but later (after GA) we'll make a 'pass-through' CD/DVD drive, so guest OS can use your real CD/DVD as a real drive, not through emulation.
Out of curiosity, do you do the cd drive emulation in the vmmain kext, or in userland and use vmmain to multiplex access to the cd drive through ioctls on /dev/vm-main?
