Another printer problem

I'm on a MacBook Pro, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.7.2 with Parallels 7.0.15050 and Win XP (I don't need it for a lot of heavy-duty stuff, so I haven't upgraded yet).

When I was using Parallels 6, I could specify which paper tray in my Canon printer (MX870, used on wi-fi network) to use, as well as many other little adjustments. Now that Parallels 7 insists that I am using HP drivers (this makes no sense to me), I have no control over the paper tray or other functions; I can't even specify how many copies of a given page to print or whether to print both sides of the paper or only one (I tried, and my selection was ignored). To print two or more copies of a document, for example, I must print each one separately, going through the entire print sequence each time.

Is there something I'm not seeing that would solve this problem? This is definitely not as user-friendly as it used to be. I'd like to be able to go back to using the proper drivers for my own printer.

I suggest to add Canon MX870 as a network printer.
Just go to the Printers folder and select "Add a printer" then follow to instructions.

I did try that earlier, but Parallels/Windows couldn't find my printer. :S

Please check if all the settings are correct:

This is a kind of old article but you should give it a try and connect your printer manually.

Okay, I've gone through the instructions in that link, but I still have the same problem. Actually, it was all already correct, but I did double-check everything.

Are there any further suggestions? Thanks!

How many printers exist within Win XP?
Did you set Canon MX870 as default printer?

I just double-checked the printer control panel in XP, and it shows the following:
Canon MX870 series (followed by a long string of numbers — the same ones I see in OS X — in parentheses)
Canon MX870 series Printer — Ready
Canon MX870 series FAX — Ready (odd, since I've never set up the FAX and don't use it) -- Ready
    Cute PDF Writer — Ready
    Progeny PDF Printer — Ready

Note that the first one is the only one that doesn't say "ready", and that has to be the correct one. It also is marked as the default printer.

Will do from now on. Still having the same problem, though, with the printer. Any further ideas?

Please delete Canon MX870 series Printer and reinstall the driver for that printer and make it default printer. I think you will get back all options.

    Thanks,
