An Old Widespread Problem with a USB Device Conflict: Any New Solutions Yet?

Looking over some old posts, it seems like a number of people have encountered the following error message when trying to use their floppy drive in the VM: USB device you are trying to connect to the virtual machine is being used by another process.

I have tried searching through solutions but nothing seems to work. It appears that something on my MacBook Pro is trying to "grab" my USB port but I do not know how to release it to use my Guest OS floppies. Has there been any progress made on this? Any kind of a solution I can try to release my USB for use?
